Michael C's In-depth review of IRON MAN II

Alright lets get started......
I'm sure Hollywood is only getting better at entertaining us, while convincing us that we don't need good acting, smart plots or intriguing stories. This film (while not necessarily a testament to that) helps you see what I mean.

So often sequels these days lose the sense of humor and class that the first one had and drone on far to long without much sense of direction. This film tried to capture the same spunk and wit as the first, it failed. But luckily it didn't try so hard that it ruined the film, instead you were just aware that the movie was not as good as the first. (read more-->)

Some characters were simply put "unnecessary", such as Justin Hammer. When you have a character acting as though he was in a third rate Robin Williams comedy you know someone wasn't paying attention to who they had cast.
Surprisingly enough both Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke did rather decent jobs. I think the only reason being that Miss Johansson rarely spoke and kept in the background, which of course had every guy in the theater in love by the time she wreaked "Kill Bill style" havoc. Personally I like Mickey Rourke, but when critically acclaimed actors start tackling comic-book roles things generally go array.

Although the film was rather hectic and didn't keep to any strict pattern, I would say that if you loved the first then go see the second. There is no denying that it was an entertaining movie.

And as for the alleged roomers, Gwyneth Paltrow disappointingly did not get punched in the face. I'm sure many fans left unhappy as the dreadful actress left the film unscathed and unhurt. -MC
